Catch a free, insightful, 30-minute “New Ways to Listen to Great Music” series by Don Campbell, world-renowned author
of The Mozart Effect. Join Don at 6:30 p.m. before each concert at Macky Auditorium for an adventure in listening.

SuperListening™ Club
In addition to the lectures, Don Campbell hosts two-hour SuperListening Club sessions that will deepen your knowledge of how music affects your health, your memory and your creativity. The SuperListening Club meets from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on the Saturday before each concert, except for the first week, which will be on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at 7 p.m. The Club meets at Trinity Lutheran Church on the northeast corner of Pine and Broadway in Boulder.

• Thursday, October 29, 2009 — “Fright Fantastique”
  Welcome to an evening of Frankenstein, imaginary tales and powerful music that will evoke the tricks and treats of great music. Learn what causes tension, anticipation and stress from music, then learn how to release it. We will not only learn about the great music of Berlioz, but how music can improve your health, mind and body. This event will be filled with treats!
• Saturday, January 23, 2010 — “The Three B’s”
  What could be better that a concert of the three masters who consistently inspire our spirits and minds? In our Saturday morning exploration of these familiar pieces, we will delve into the remarkable biographies of the composers and their techniques and skills for bringing us such masterworks. 
• Saturday, February 13, 2010, the day before our Special Sunday Valentine's Concert
  Composers from all over the world have been inspired by the exotic, passionate beauty of Spanish folksongs and dances. The delicious sounds of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Edouard Lalo and Maurice Ravel will highlight this romantic concert. The music of the heart and love will be embraced and we will learn how important it is to use music to open our emotions for our refreshment and health.
• Saturday, March 13, 2010, before the Wednesday concert, March 17
  Angela Cheng will bring us one of her brilliant evenings with Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2, which was the first one he composed at the age of 20! Then we will look into Bizet’s playful and dynamic Symphony in C, which he composed at age 17. We will explore the aspects of young geniuses and have a guest expert tell us about amazing musical kids in our world today.
• Saturday, April 24, 1010 — Carmina burana
  “O Fortuna!” Our fate, fortune and fantasies will be stimulated by the remarkable text and origins of this enthralling work by Carl Orff. You will long remember this fantastic Listening session with primal music and new music of Daniel Kellogg and Christopher Theofanidis.

This season's theme, “The Music You Love,” will provide a wide array of sounds, styles and symphonic repertoire that will inspire your mind, body and spirit. From splendid performances of classical Ravel, Chopin, Beethoven and Brahms to the powerful Carmina burana of Carl Orff, you will delight in the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra's vivid display of virtuosity and skill. Before each concert, we will continue our “New Ways to Listen to Great Music” pre-concert series. About Don Campbell 
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Campbell spent his high school years in Europe, studying classical music with the legendary Nadia Boulanger and Jean Casadesus at the Fontainebleau Conservatory in France. A graduate of the University of North Texas, he began his professional career as a music critic and teacher for seven years at St. Mary's International School in Tokyo.

Currently, he is Acoustic and Musical Director of Aesthetics Audio Systems, an innovative company that provides quality music to healthcare facilities including the Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital in Louisville, Colorado.

Don Campbell, author of 23 books, is widely known for his bestsellers, The Mozart Effect® and The Mozart Effect for Children®, which have been translated into 26 languages and are still gaining international recognition. Equally popular are the accompanying The Mozart Effect® recordings, which dominated the Classical Billboard charts.
 
Mr. Campbell has lectured for dozens of symphonic organizations including the Cincinnati Orchestra, the San Diego Symphony, The Minnesota Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony, and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. He is presently on the board of the American Music Research Center at the University of Colorado in Boulder and advisor for Advanced Brain Technologies.
