Philharmonic Discovery Program
Wednesday April 22, 2009 at Monarch High School at 10:00am and 11:30am. Seating is limited - register now!
Welcome to the Boulder Philharmonic's new Philharmonic Discovery
Program! This concert is designed by orchestra personnel and area
teachers for children in grades 3-5, many of whom will be attending a
live orchestra concert for the first time. The goal is to introduce
students to the individual instruments, the orchestra as a whole, and
to the ways composers throughout history have used music to create
stories. When your class attends the performance, entitled "Stories
and Legends", they will work with Maestro Michael Butterman and the
orchestra to create their own musical story using the same elements
used by the composers of the works on the program.
The links below offer a wealth of information about each piece of
music on the program including biographies of the composers and lesson plans designed to align with the Boulder Valley School District Music and Language Arts standards. Please take advantage of these materials in your classroom as you see fit to enhance the concert experience for your students.
The Boulder Phil is proud to offer this exciting new program for
children, and our hope is that eventually every 3rd grader in the Boulder area
will be able to experience the joy and excitement of a live orchestra
concert.
