Cello-bration! A night for cello lovers, featuring a unique double-cello work along with Schumann’s moving Cello Concerto reimagined for chamber forces as the composer had planned to do, but did not live to complete. The program also includes a charming triple-violin work by the Phil’s own Paul Trapkus and concludes with Wagner’s sublime Siegfried Idyll – a musical love letter to his wife, Cosima.

Stravinsky reinvented his compositional approach in the aftermath of WWI and the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918 – distilling the opulence and intricacy of his early works into an intimate, condensed style. L’Histoire du soldat (The Soldier’s Tale) is a theatrical work “to be read, played, and danced” and takes on an intimacy that suits the moralizing message of the drama: greed leads to ruin. We’re delighted to collaborate with our friends in the CU Department of Theater and Boulder Ballet to present this unique program.

George Walker’s Lyric for Strings is elegiac and consoling, the perfect music for our current moment. Also on the program, composer Korine Fujiwara’s story of a trailblazing and inspirational female artist, Camille Claudel, is brought to life by string orchestra with the extraordinary dancers at Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance! The evening concludes with Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, presented in a stunning version for string sextet by Beethoven’s contemporary, M.G. Fischer.
