Continuing a long-standing tradition, the Boulder Philharmonic is resuming its Young Artist Concerto Competition! First prize winner will receive $1,000 as well as the opportunity to perform with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra during our March 3, 2019 concert. The runner-up will receive $250.

Auditions will take place on January 13, 2019 at Atonement Lutheran Church in Boulder. All contestants will be judged by a panel of three professional musicians from the Boulder Phil, and every effort will be made to provide each contestant with the judges’ scoring and comments following their audition. All decisions made by the judges are final.


*Must be a high school student in the state of Colorado
*Must play a standard orchestral instrument

Application Instructions
A non-refundable fee of $20 payable to the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra must accompany each application. Applications are due no later than January 1, 2019. A confirmation will be e-mailed upon receipt of the application, along with details regarding assigned audition time and competition schedule.

Audition Repertoire Criteria

*One movement of a standard concerto or concert piece for solo instrument and orchestra.
*Selection must be memorized and no longer than 12 minutes.
*Contestants must perform a work that regularly appears in concert repertoire and for which the music for the orchestra would be readily available.

Audition Venue, Dates & Times
The in-person auditions will be held on January 13, 2019, from 1 PM – 4 PM at Atonement Lutheran Church, 685 Inca Parkway, Boulder, CO 80303.
