Program Guidelines:
Resound Boulder will award prizes to two composers. Each winner will create new works for the Boulder Philharmonic, one orchestral and one chamber, and will receive a monetary reward.
First Prize: premiere of a new 3-minute chamber work for string quartet or brass quintet (instrumentation selected by the Boulder Philharmonic), plus premiere of a new 10-minute full orchestral work. Both works to be performed in the 2022-2023 season. Monetary Reward: $3000, plus printing and binding costs
Second Prize: premiere of a new 3-minute chamber work for string quartet or brass quintet (instrumentation selected by the Boulder Philharmonic), plus premiere of a new 5-minute full orchestral work to be performed on the Boulder Philharmonic’s 2023 Discovery Concert. Both works to be performed in the 2022-2023 season. Monetary Reward: $1500, plus printing and binding costs
How to Apply:
Read the program guidelines for instructions about the materials you must send with your proposal. Please note that late or incomplete proposals will not be considered.
After completing the application form (on or before February 25, 2022), email education@boulderphil.org. The subject line of this email should read: Application for [Name of Composer]. Please include active links to score samples in the body of this email, or attach score PDFs. Also include links to the audio files described in the application requirements (preferred), or downloadable sound files. Please do not send hard copy materials.
Who Can Apply:
Residents of Wyoming, Colorado or New Mexico or students in those states.
Composers 30 years of age and younger seeking their premiere engagement with a professional-level orchestra.
The Boulder Phil especially invites applicants from backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in the orchestral field.
Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges based on review of sample works submitted. Selected composers will be notified in April 2022. The Boulder Philharmonic reserves the right not to select a winner for one or both prizes. United States citizenship is not required for consideration.
