Symphony No. 1

Overview

For 75 years, the Boulder Star has represented the hopes and aspirations of our community. Join us as we celebrate the anniversary of this cultural icon with the world premiere of local composer, performer, educator, and thought leader Jeffrey Nytch’s Beacon. We’ll hear a beautifully evocative vision of a ‘world without evil,’ based on a Guarani legend from Argentinian composer and bandoneon soloist, Richard Scofano. La Tierra Sin Mal will be accompanied by the original choreography of 3rd Law Dance/Theater, a local award-winning contemporary dance company that has been creating original theatrical and site-specific work for over two decades. Finally, Brahms’ towering Symphony No. 1 offers its own vision of paradise, especially in its transcendent finale.

Jeffrey Nytch on the power of the arts

“Because the arts possess a unique ability to bring people together, change hearts, and inspire positive action, they can be potent vehicles for addressing the many critical issues facing our country. The arts can and should play a central role in addressing issues such as racial and cultural equity, climate change, and criminal justice reform, to name just a few. The arts create a bridge between our individual selves and our collective selves, they represent the one universal thing that has held humanity together in every society throughout the whole of our recorded history. In these times of division and strife, we need these qualities more than ever, and the arts can show us the way. We cannot afford to ignore this opportunity.” – Jeffrey Nytch
