Beyond the Performance

Misa Stanton, Boulder Phil’s Youth Artist Concerto Competition Winner

“The piece I chose to play for the Boulder Phil YACC was Tzigane by Ravel. One of the main characteristics of this piece is that it’s written in the Romani style, which is very virtuosic. There’s also quite a few technical challenges such as passages high on the G string of the instrument, a range where it’s difficult to get a clear sound, and there are various techniques incorporated throughout the piece such as left hand pizzicato and artificial harmonic passages. One of the most challenging aspects of this piece is navigating all the technical challenges while still capturing the character and virtuosity of the piece.”

From Caroline Shaw’s notes on Entr’acte

“I love the way some music suddenly takes you to the other side of Alice’s looking glass, in a kind of absurd, subtle, technicolor transition.” – Caroline Shaw

SPRING ROMANCE
Saturday | Apr. 27, 2024 at 7 PM

Experience the blooming spring finale, a hall filled with lush romanticism. Lili Boulanger’s vibrant swan song, D’un matin de printemps, resonates beautifully with Saint-Saëns’ virtuosic Violin Concerto No. 3, performed by award-winning violinist Francisco Fullana in his Boulder debut. Tchaikovsky’s autobiographical Symphony No. 5 in E minor closes our season, capturing the essence of Romantic passion, fate’s struggles, and moments of hope and grace.
