ABOUT DISCOVERY CONCERT 2018
Discovery Concert 2018 takes students in grades 3-6 on a journey to explore orchestral music in a fun, interactive format featuring nationally-acclaimed Music Director Michael Butterman.
This year's Reach for the Stars program offers an exciting space exploration theme in honor of NASA’s – and the Boulder Phil’s – 60th anniversary. The program explores concepts of history, courage and innovation, while featuring some of the very best and most engaging orchestral music ever written! The 50-minute multimedia concert is presented at the historic Macky Auditorium on the CU campus.
Thursday, February 1, 2018 – 2 concerts at 10 AM & 11:30 AM
Friday, February 2, 2018 – 2 concerts at 10 AM & 11:30 AM
ADD AN IN-SCHOOL VISIT
Hosting a Boulder Phil Brass Quintet or String Quartet during the fall semester at your school brings instrumental music alive for your students! This “up-close and personal” experience highlights instrument families, composers and plenty of time for student questions. We also offer limited in-school engagements with Maestro Butterman.
Students attend the Discovery Concert for just $5, and teachers and chaperones attend free of charge. In-school chamber music visits with our professional musicians are $100 per visit. All curriculum materials are included with registration, and schools are responsible for transportation arrangements. Limited financial assistance is available, please inquire.

What teachers are saying about Discovery Concerts…
“The music was superb. Maestro Butterman is a hit with my kids every year.”
“The Discovery Concerts are a wonderful way to give a diverse group of students an opportunity to see a professional orchestra, to visit a large university, and, to be inspired to enjoy, perform, and compose classical music. We hope to bring both our third and fourth graders (approximately 200 students) next year!”
“This was a wonderful experience!!!”
