WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Absolutely anyone! Though our Discovery Concert is designed for 3rd-6th graders, we think this year’s Soundscapes program will be enjoyable for all ages.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
The Boulder Phil is committed to making our 2022 Virtual Discovery Program accessible to you. Our suggested ticket fee of $6 per student is for those who would like a starting point as you choose your price. You are welcome to participate in our Discovery Program at NO COST. After you enjoy Soundscapes, we only ask that you consider coming back to this page to demonstrate your support for the Boulder Phil’s Education Programs. In-Person Discovery Concerts
During previous seasons, Boulder Philharmonic’s Discovery Concerts have taken students in grades 3-6 on a journey to explore orchestral music in a fun, interactive format featuring nationally-acclaimed Music Director Michael Butterman. Students attended a 50-minute performance during the school day designed to support and coordinate with their core curriculum.
Previous Discovery Concerts have linked architecture with music, presented how music can lend itself to narrative, showed how music can express both positive and negative emotions, and linked music and visual art to help make music’s abstract nature more tangible and understandable. Teachers are provided curriculum guides, lesson plans, and a Spotify Playlist of repertoire to help prepare their students for the experience. Many students also received a visit from Michael Butterman or one of our chamber ensembles in preparation for the concert. Our goal is to inspire students to begin instrumental study through the public schools, which studies show lead to improved academic performance in other areas as well.
